When the world is celebrated. World Peace Day. How and when did this holiday appear? Kindness is always richer

18.11.2021

World Peace Day (another name is International Day of Peace) is a holiday established to draw the attention of the world community to such a global problem as international conflicts and wars. Indeed, for many inhabitants of our planet, living in a state of instability or even open armed confrontation, such a state as "peace" is only an elusive dream.

What date is World Peace Day

The history of the World Day of Peace holiday dates back to 1981, when the decision of the UN General Assembly decided to establish the International Day of Peace on the third Tuesday of September. This was due to the fact that for the majority of people living in prosperous countries, security seems so familiar and self-evident that it is difficult to imagine how military conflicts continue in a huge number of places on the globe and not only military men die in them every day, but also the civilian population: the elderly, women, children. It was to draw attention to the problems of these people that the World Day of Peace was invented.

In 2001, an additional UN resolution was adopted, which determined the exact date of the celebration. The World Day of Peace is now celebrated on September 21st. On this day, the day of the general ceasefire and renunciation is held.

Events for World Peace Day

All activities on the World Day of Peace begin with a speech by the UN Secretary General. Then he symbolically strikes the bell. This is followed by a minute of silence in memory of all who died in armed conflicts. After that, the floor is given to the President of the UN Security Council.

Various events are held all over the Earth on this day for adults and children, corresponding to the main theme of the holiday. It changes every year. For example, World Peace Days were held under the mottos: "Peoples' Right to Peace", "Youth for Peace and Development", "Sustainable Peace for a Sustainable Future" and many others. The events are educational, sports in nature, many exhibitions and lectures are opened.

The symbol of World Peace Day is a white dove, as an example of purity and a safe sky above. At many events, in the finals, such pigeons are released into the sky. There are also a large number of charitable events, humanitarian aid collections for victims of armed conflicts around the world.

Tuna is one of the most famous and popular fish eaten. It is even called sea chicken along with salmon, comparing it with chicken meat as the most popular among other birds.

On average, an adult tuna weighs 60-70 kg and reaches 1.5-2 meters in length. The largest specimen among those recorded was caught in Japan: the fish weighed 684 kg, and its length was 4.6 meters. And in January 2013, in the same Japan, they caught tuna weighing 222 kg. It was sold at auction for a record amount of 1 million 760 thousand dollars.

Once upon a time, tuna was not perceived at all as a fish. The color of its meat is not pale, like most fish, but bright red, like beef. The reason for this unusual color is myoglobin, a substance that is produced in the muscles of tuna so that the body of the fish is resistant to increased stress.

Tuna moves a lot and very fast: its speed reaches 80 km / h. However, tuna is not popular for its sporting achievements.

First of all, its meat is rich in protein: it contains up to 30% in tuna. Moreover, it contains vitamins (especially vitamin D), calcium, phosphorus, as well as omega-3 and omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids, all at a relatively low calorie content.

All over the world, tuna was so loved that its population began to decline rapidly. While migratory tuna accounts for 20% of the value of all marine fisheries, tuna populations have declined by 4% since the beginning of the fishery in the mid-twentieth century.

As for the largest species - the Pacific tuna - over the past 40 years, its numbers in the eastern Atlantic have decreased by 72%, and in the western - by 82%. Today, more than 80 countries of the world are engaged in fishing for this fish.

As a result, in December 2016, it adopted a resolution and proclaimed May 2 as World Tuna Day. It is recommended to mark it in accordance with national priorities, raising awareness of the value of tuna, the threats to its population, the economic and social aspects of tuna stocks, as well as talking about best practices in this area. And of course, on this day, you should refrain from tuna dishes.

This is not the first and hardly the last holiday in honor of the fish, which is celebrated in the world. In some countries, there are national holidays with similar themes, but they celebrate them exactly the opposite.

Fish Day, Japan

The locals call this festival Kingo Matsuri. Every day, mountains of fresh fish stretch on the shelves of Japanese markets, and on May 12 you can meet it on every corner. Raw fish is eaten in tons in the form of tartars, crudo, ceviche and sashimi, as well as in the more familiar rolls and sushi.

It is also pickled, fried in a pan and over an open fire, boiled in soy sauce or boiling oil, and even sausages and sausages are made from it. The locals also love dried fish: the familiar tuna, dried, smoked and then grated into shavings, can be stored for a long time and is considered an expensive gift.

The Japanese are especially sensitive to the selection of sauces for the dish and its appearance: sometimes real works of art are served on plates.

Also on this day, master classes are held everywhere on how to choose, scale and butcher raw fish.

Herring Day, Netherlands

One Saturday in June, the first trawler of the season with fresh herring arrives at one of the Dutch ports. It is this catch that is considered the most successful, as the fish reaches its ideal size and degree of fat content. It is not uncommon to hear locals refer to the holiday as "Flag Day", as often the herring is sold with wooden sticks stuck in with the country's flag on the end, so as not to get your hands dirty with fish.

The first ship to enter the harbor with a catch receives a cash prize - this usually happens at the beginning of the week.

The herring is immediately salted and on Saturday, according to tradition, the first barrel is sent as a gift to the royal palace, and the second goes under the hammer at an auction.

All proceeds from the sale of the second keg go to charity, and the remaining herring is sold to retail shops. Vendors in national costumes right behind the counter deftly cut herring and serve it with onions and pickles in a bun.

Also, in honor of the holiday, excursions are held especially for tourists around the harbor filled with modern ships and ancient sailboats, and equestrian competitions are held near the pier in the port of Scheveningen.

^^Salmon Day, USA^^^

Every year more and more Americans celebrate Salmon Day. Not in all states, however - so far in early October this holiday is celebrated mainly in California, Illinois and Oregon. It takes place as part of the promotion of healthy eating in America, since salmon, like tuna, is rich in large amounts of vitamins, micro and macro elements, and also contains omega-3 fatty acids.

On the day of the holiday, various games are held for children and adults, mainly related to the traditions of the indigenous peoples of North America. Festival participants dress up in national Indian costumes, and those who wish can weave baubles, wreaths and dream catchers. Decorations in the form of fish are set up around, and of course, tents and trailers with many salmon dishes.

Since childhood, we all know the phrases “How many people, so many opinions” and “There are never many good things”, but it is not always possible to apply them in relation to the same phenomenon. This time - that rare case when it is not only possible, but also necessary. A holiday that reminds of gratitude and respect for such amazing creatures as cats was definitely worth inventing.

When is Cat Day celebrated?

Do not be surprised that in Russia World Cat Day is March 1, in the USA - October 29, in the UK - August 8, and say, in Italy - February 17. First, good ideas often come to different people at the same time, especially in different countries. Secondly, one of the oldest companions of man, with a population of more than half a billion, of course, deserves increased signs of attention.

Thirdly, everything is logical: for each season there is one Cat Day (or more, if you count not only officially international, but also local holidays). But still, let's talk about some of them in more detail.

February Cat Day

World Cat Day, which is celebrated on February 17 in a number of European countries, can rightly be called one of the "oldest", if we can say about the holiday, which is 27 years old. And it all started in Italy with the initiative of the journalist of the famous publication Tuttogatto - Claudia Angeletti.

On its pages, a poll was conducted among readers whether they would like to see the Day of protection of cats. Since the audience supported the idea, the day was chosen as the next stage - February 17 was suggested by a certain Oriella Del Col. The woman motivated her choice by the fact that February is traditionally considered the month of witches and cats in Italy, and the number 17 also portends failure.

If such a message for the holiday seems strange to you, let us explain: the Italian animal rights activists thereby opposed superstitions and mistreatment of cats (in particular, black ones who suffered from the Inquisition). And so that no one else had any questions, they appointed an additional holiday for the most unfortunate category of cats - November 17 (Black Cat Day).

But even earlier, they began to honor furry pets in Japan. Every February 22, since 1987, events have been held in Tokyo where a special jury selects the most unusual cat (and not in terms of appearance, but taking into account its “achievements” and behavior). The day was not chosen by chance, because the Japanese "meow-meow" (in the original "nyan-nyan") means two deuces.

England and America

In 2002, the International Fund for Animal Welfare officially registered World or International Cat Day on August 8th. This initiative caused a great response among the British. This is not surprising, given how willingly in the United Kingdom they erect monuments to mustachioed mouse hunters, who not only protect grain stocks at enterprises from rodents, but also officially keep watch in museums, for example, in the most famous repository of relics - the British Museum.

On the Day of Cats, it is customary to congratulate these employees: equip houses for them, sew "uniforms", pamper them with yummy. Other Europeans do not forget about the home front workers: in Austria, for example, on one of the world cat days, a special award was established, which is given to animals that have tried for the good of their homeland for several years - mouser cats are taken there for life maintenance at the expense of the state.

In America, Cat Day is celebrated annually on October 29 - this decision was made by the Society for the Protection of Animals from Cruelty in 2005.

In addition to the fact that on this day many wear T-shirts and “cat ears”, buy and give gifts with cat symbols (pay tribute to marketing, so to speak), the main emphasis in the media (and social networks) is on people taking as many shelter cats as possible. Photos of empty cells with "adoption" statistics for October 29 and August 8 are posted annually on the Web.

World Cat Day in Russia

It is unlikely that we will be mistaken in assuming that most of our citizens do not know when Cat Day is celebrated in Russia. Still, despite the growing popularity, this holiday is not the most iconic, besides, truly popular love comes on its “tail” - March 8th. But you must admit that March suits purrs much more than other months.

Spring begins, more and more often the sounds of a drop, bird chirping and March “trills” are heard outside the window. The nature of the latter, we think, no one needs to interpret - the phrase speaks for itself. Did these associations influence the choice of the date of the holiday in our country? We decided to find out how it happened that March 1 is International Cat Day in Russia.

How it all began

For the first time this holiday, the Day of Cats and Cats, took place in Russia on March 1, 2004. The magazine "Cat and Dog" and the private Moscow Cat Museum took a direct part in its birth. It was at the opening of the exhibition dedicated to the mustachioed heroes of the occasion (under the motto "Love for cats - forever!"), The organizers announced the creation of a new holiday. Then the idea was picked up by other organizations.

The emblem of the holiday was drawn by a talented artist Tatyana Kharitonova - she became a portrait of a sunny red cat named Sebastian.

Now it seems correct and logical that Cat Day is March 1, its history, however, could be completely different if it were not for creative people behind the scenes. This is Natalya Dmitrieva, editor-in-chief of the newspaper and magazine "Cat and Dog" and artist Andrei Abramov (he is also the director of the Cat Museum and at that time the host of the program "The Amazing World of Cats").

Double birthday

An interesting fact that, perhaps, opens up new facets, if not in the holiday itself, then in its history: the editor-in-chief of the Cat and Dog magazine also celebrates his birthday on March 1! Congratulations Natalya Yakovlevna with a personal holiday and at the same time World Cat Day.

And let's remind readers that the first issue of the newspaper "Cat and Dog" was published on September 2, 1990 - this edition immediately became popular with pet lovers. Then a magazine of the same name appeared, which, despite a very difficult time, did not give up its positions, putting love for animals and attention to readers above many market factors.

Natalya Yakovlevna sincerely loves cats (which the beauties living in her house would surely tell about), is interested in the life and rights of animals, and participates in many events dedicated to pets. It is not surprising that she put a piece of her soul into the creation of World Cat Day.

Pokotushki for the holiday

Now that you know everything: how things are abroad, and why World Cat Day is celebrated on March 1 in Russia - congratulations, poems and pictures will already be useful.

We really hope that with your joint efforts we will replenish the "people's stock" of ditties-pokotushek, interesting poems about cats, poetic and prosaic declarations of love and sincere photographs. In the meantime, evaluate the pictures and poems for March 1 for Cat Day, which we found for you on the Web and came up with ourselves.

To never get sick

Eared, purrs,

And just delicious food

Pillows, hands, mice

Surrounded them day and night

And all sorrows - with the wind away!

March motives

We do not need empty speeches,

Forecast for the week

Here come the cats

Now we are waiting for the rooks.

red pirate

Spring, oh, how glad.

See, admire

But don't pry into my personal life!

beauty connoisseur,

And he hates slippers...

From sore

If the cat is striped -

She is mischievous and mustachioed,

But love her at the same time

You must winter and summer.

I bought a filler

For the cat litter.

I tried - the whole apartment

Like a hamster cage.

On a dark night in my bedroom

They are closing.

I sing to them under the door.

And they don't like it!

I'll go for a walk in the yard

There is a nasty ball there.

I will drive him

Let him know what revenge means!

I'll tell you people like this -

If you offend me

My ass and my tail -

You'll just see it!

Every day packages, bags

You bring home.

Oh, work, that work!

Smell everything, break it!

My master is on a laptop

I made the whole program.

He created it in agony -

I washed everything with my paw!

Louder than a thousand decibels

Our Murzik has not yet eaten

"Ode to a Cat" by Pablo Neruda

And finally, again, some lyrics... On March 1, on the Day of the Cats, the poems of the wonderful poet Pablo Neruda (translated by O. Savich) sound especially solemn, gentle and elegant. And what do you think?

Animals were imperfect at first:

the tail is too long

that's a tiny head.

But gradually they settled down

and created a landscape

acquired finesse and stains

relatives, mastered the flight.

A cat is just a cat!

And she appeared whole and proud;

she was born complete

she goes and knows what she wants.

Would a man want to be a fish or a bird,

the snake would like to have wings,

the dog is only a bewildered lion,

an engineer would like to become a poet,

and the fly learns to swallow,

the poet seeks to imitate the fly,

and the cat wants to be a cat, and nothing more;

every cat is a cat

yes, cat, from whiskers to tail

and from premonition to a quick rat,

from night to gold in the eyes.

There is no such unity yet;

no such building

neither the moon, nor the flower;

there is integrity in everything,

as in the sun, as in topaz,

and the elastic line

confident and thin contours

similar to the drawing of the nose of a ship;

and yellow eyes

leaving only one crack

so that the night could throw its coins there.

Oh little one

empress without a globe,

conqueror without a homeland,

toy salon tigress,

sultana in the sky of roofs,

you call in bad weather

love wind;

you walk the earth

walking with four graceful legs,

sniffing everything, not trusting

earthly nothing,

everything is disgusting - unclean

for the feet of the cat's immaculate.

O independent domestic predator,

arrogant relic of the night,

lazy, resilient, alien,

all - cat to the roots of the hair

and to the end of the nails,

secret Homes Police,

vanished velvet remnant, -

no mystery, of course.

in your habit;

maybe you're not a secret at all,

everyone knows you, you -

of the least mysterious creatures;

Maybe everyone believes

and consider themselves

owners and owners

companions and friends of cats,

and relatives and students.

Me not. I'm not signing up for this.

I don't know cats.

I know everything - life, archipelagos

and the sea, and the innumerable city,

botany and the path of the whorl to the sun,

and mathematics - insofar as

and passionate deceptions of the world,

and surreal crocodile clothes,

the unknown kindness of firefighters,

priests azure atavism, -

but I can't decipher the cat.

My mind skims over her indifference,

and the numbers are golden in her eyes.

Humanity repeatedly receives clear life lessons about “what not to do”, but military conflicts break out in every 5th state, and every 100-150 years a large-scale military campaign takes place on the planet, after which the evolutionary round begins lower than the previous one (rollback on understanding mistakes and recovery instead of the next step).

More than half a century has passed since the brutal Second World War, when the few survivors rebuilt destroyed and burned cities, restored industry and cultural heritage. However, after a few decades, military conflicts began to flare up on the territory of countries that survived the war.

For more than 50 years, the UN international organization has been working as a catalyst to awaken the consciousness of citizens so that each individual can weave his “thread” into the next shirt for a poor neighbor. In order to draw people's attention to the aggravated situation, as well as to strengthen the idea of peaceful existence within individual states and on the planet as a whole, this international holiday was proclaimed.

The content of the article

When they celebrate

International Day of Peace is observed annually on September 21st. The holiday itself was established by the UN General Assembly in 1981 on the basis of resolution No. A / RES / 36/67, and the current date is fixed by special resolution No. A / RES / 55/282 of September 28, 2001. Despite the fact that the event has existed for more than 30 years, the current political situation in some countries can hardly be called peaceful.

Who is celebrating

On the International Day of Peace 2020, public governmental and non-governmental organizations celebrate the holiday together, which opens with the address of the UN Secretary-General at the Peace Bell. In Russia, it falls on one of the Days of Military Glory - the Victory Day of the Russian regiments in the Battle of Kulikovo, so this is a double event.

History and traditions of the holiday

International Day of Peace dates back to 1981. The event was established by the General Assembly of the United Nations. It was originally celebrated annually on the opening day of the UN session (the third Tuesday of September of each year), but in 2001 September 21 was chosen as the official date.

This is a kind of professional holiday for the UN, since the scope of the organization is connected with the elimination of the causes and consequences of military conflicts, which in turn provoke poverty, a surge in diseases and epidemics.

The celebration of the event has a variable semantic load. That is, every year it is devoted to different problems and is held under different mottos (from the past - "Peace and Democracy: Express Your Opinion", "Education for Peace", "Youth for Peace and Development", "Disarmament and Non-Proliferation".

Have an interesting day

Task for today: Give up aggression and violence on this day.
Every 100-150 years, a large-scale military campaign takes place on the planet. And military conflicts break out in every 5th state. After each large-scale war, the evolutionary round begins below the previous one. Peace Day is a reminder that war is bad.

But it is also a holiday for the UN, whose activities are related to the elimination of the causes and consequences of military conflicts. And for the Peace One Day organization, which seeks to achieve the realization of the annual day of worldwide ceasefire and non-violence.

Give up aggression and violence on this day.

The image of a dove is traditionally used as a symbol of peace. The modern emblem is a dove with an olive branch in its beak, made by P. Picasso based on the biblical motif of Noah's Ark (as a sign of God's forgiveness, this bird brought an olive branch to the ship).

The question of what holiday is celebrated today does not lose its relevance. Russians are interested not only in state and professional holidays, but also distinguish church holidays according to the Orthodox calendar into a separate category.

Today is rich in events in terms of holidays. So, October 9, 2018 is World Post Day. In turn, the following holiday is professional in Russia: the Day of the formation of the Special Fire Department of the Ministry of Emergencies. Orthodox believers today remember John the Theologian.

Every year on October 9, Postal Day is celebrated in many countries around the world. In 1969, in the capital of Japan, it was decided to celebrate this holiday every year. The post office plays an important role in the modern world. After all, it is used in many industries. Most companies cannot do without mail.

For the first time, the introduction of a new holiday - World Post Day, was discussed in 1939 at the World Postal Congress in Argentina. Despite the arguments of the experts, the decision to adopt the holiday was rejected. In 1959, a decision was made to hold an annual Letter Day on October 9th.

However, in 1969 in Japan, the issue of adopting World Post Day was again decided to be raised for discussion. It was at the 16th Congress that they decided to support the idea of holding a holiday.

Russia also celebrates Russian Post Day every second Sunday in July. At the moment, there are about 40,000 post offices, more than 100 post offices in the Russian Federation, Russian post services cover 99% of the country's territory.

Since ancient times, people have exchanged information in various ways, because it was not always possible to communicate something important in person. Messages could be transmitted through messengers by oral or parchment messages. Later, the messengers began to ride horses and all also passed the oral messages.

The purpose of celebrating World Post Day is to show society the importance of modern mail. The social and economic development of the country depends on it.

The day of formation of the Special Fire Protection of Russia is annually celebrated on October 9th. In 2018, this service is celebrating its 71st anniversary. Every year, special fire departments go to fires, accidents, exercises and various trainings more than 50 thousand times.

The history of the creation of special units of the State Fire Service is firmly connected with the production and formation of nuclear weapons in the Russian Federation.

In accordance with the decision of the authorities on October 9, 1947, by order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a special department was organized as part of the Main Directorate of Fire Protection for the preparation and protection of objects that were involved in the implementation of the project. The organizations that were created became innovators not only in the field of fire fighting, but also in the implementation of preventive measures at special facilities of the country's military-industrial complex.

Over time, the list of companies and institutions that belong to the area of responsibility of the Special Fire Guard was updated with new objects, and such “closed” cities also belonged to them. All this led to the fact that there was a need for an increase in the number of units, rescue and fire equipment, equipment, regular development of the personnel specialization system, an increase in the range of fire extinguishing capabilities, and the normalization of the concentrating control system.

John became a disciple of the Savior together with his older brother, the Apostle James. Together with Peter the Apostle, they belonged to the group of disciples closest to Jesus Christ. Three apostles saw the miracle of the resurrection of the daughter of Jairus and were honored to be present at the Transfiguration of the teacher.

John wrote the three epistles of the New Testament, the Book of Revelation, the Gospel in his own name. It was to him that Christ entrusted the care of the Virgin Mary, and he fulfilled this promise until the end of his days. John earned the title of Theologian by calling Jesus in the Gospel the Word of God.

One of the legends says that one goose shepherd, by the will of John, was turned into a talented painter, and therefore it is generally accepted that the apostle patronizes icon painters and artists, and on his day they should pray for the inspiration and help of the saint in their creative accomplishments.

There were also weather signs for this day. Snowfall on Ivan foreshadowed that winter would come on November 21, on St. Michael's Day. They believed that if there was no foliage left on the cherry trees by the first snow, then winter would not linger. If the trees did not drop their leaves at all, it was necessary to wait for severe colds.

About the first snow, the people put together the following saying: “It’s not the snow that sweeps, but the one that comes from above.” Snow falling in the daytime is considered not yet winter - it truly covers the earth only at night. Snowfall mixed with rain this afternoon - promised at least three thaws during January. If the holiday turned out to be serene, with sun and warmth, then June next year should fall chilly, with frequent rains.

In South Korea, October 9 is the Day of the Proclamation of the Korean Alphabet. The original alphabet of this language is called Hangul. So this date marks its creation and proclamation in the country by King Sejong the Great. The king, on the other hand, was able to publish the publication of a document that showed the new alphabet. It was in the ninth lunar month in 1446.

The Korean Alphabet Society in 1926 celebrated the 480th anniversary of the declaration of the Korean alphabet on the last day of the ninth month of the lunar calendar. The celebration was moved in 1931 to October 29 according to the Gregorian calendar. And again, the date of the event was moved already in 1934 to October 28. But in 1940, the original source of the document was found, which said that the alphabet was agreed during the first ten days of the ninth lunar month. That day just fell on October 9th. In 1945, the South Korean government officially set the Day of the Proclamation of the Korean Alphabet on October 9th.

The day was able to lose the status of a public holiday in 1991. This happened under pressure from a large number of employers who opposed the increase in non-working days. Today, in spite of everything, the holiday retains the status of a national holiday.
